Luke
1:76, “And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou
shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; 77 To give knowledge
of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, 78 Through the
tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, 79
To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide
our feet into the way of peace.”
Zechariah
prophesied these words over his son, John, at the time of his dedication. John
was the forerunner of Jesus Christ and as such was to carry the Light of God to
a world filled with darkness. The Church, the Body of Christ has the same
responsibility in our world today. We “are the light of the world. A city that
is set on an hill cannot be hid,” Matt. 5:14. We are torchbearers of the
Light, called to make a difference and bring the holy influence of God to
impact our world!
Therefore, we are required to make some
difficult choices if we are to change the direction of our nation and world. We
must choose to love others as we do ourselves? We must choose to seek the well-being of others rather than promote our own selfish ambitions and desires. We
must choose to embody God’s Truth in every thought, word, and action. We must
choose to treat every relationship justly and impartially. What if we actually
treated others like we want to be treated? Matt. 7:12, “Therefore all things
whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them:..”
We
should be challenged as we reflect upon our past. Have we done our best to
affect positive change for the Lord Jesus Christ? Are you pleased with the
outcomes you have observed or does God's Spirit within urge you to make a
greater difference in the time ahead?
The challenge is before us, “will we make a difference?” Are we willing to be shaken from our positions of safety and comfort and invest ourselves in addressing the woes of our community, our nation, and our world? The whole of creation is crying out for a change. That change will come in the form of Divine intervention. God is the answer to all our issues and problems. Therefore, as Children of God and Followers of His Son Jesus Christ, we are thus compelled to seek God for His grace and tender mercies. We need to seek for and prepare to further engage in God’s Divine Intervention! It is there that we will truly Make A Difference!
