Ephesians
5:15, “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17Wherefore be ye not unwise,
but understanding what the will of the Lord is. 18And be not drunk with wine,
wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;”
Every
day and hour previous to this time has been intricate to the plan of God and
instrumental to our success in service to Him. However, many times we have
needed to return to God and ask Him for a “do-over.” The outcome of our plan
didn’t turn out the way it was supposed to or we failed to follow through with
our plan for some reason. Whatever the circumstance, God has given us a second
chance to get it right. We usually have had the opportunity to do that.
Now,
we have come to the threshold of eternity and we may not have time to go back
and fix things as before. We need to get it right this time! I’m afraid we might
not have a second chance. How many people do we pass in a day's time never to
see or influence that person again? What will happen to them if no one else
steps into their lives to inspire them to follow Jesus Christ? They will hear
the Gospel message in some form or fashion but you just lost the opportunity to
make a difference in eternity for that person or persons. We cannot afford to
be negligent in being a good steward of this time.
In
Ephesians 5, Paul is instructing all who would be accepted by God to follow Him
as children of God. Paul goes on to state that believers are to walk as
children of light. Previously, we were walking in darkness, but now we are
light in the Lord. Therefore, live as children of light to shine in the
darkness to direct the way of others. He said, “walk circumspectly,” or
carefully knowing that our lives, our testimony will affect those around us.
The response of others will depend on how we have responded to the Gospel and
let Christ transform our lives.
“Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” Make the most of the time God has given us knowing that when that moment has expired it is lost forever to eternity. Evil is ever-present to resist the Gospel but the love of Jesus Christ is much stronger. Darkness is ever-present and will increase as we draw closer to the end but His Light shines even brighter in the darkness. Let Him shine through you! It’s Getting Late!
