Psalm
100:5, “For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his
truth endureth to all generations.”
MERCY
is something we all want from God and from others! Mercy is a
disposition to forgive or be kind. It is another Godly characteristic
that is often lacking in worldly wisdom. But James 3:17 says that the
wisdom from above is FULL of mercy, abundant in mercy. We know that
mercy originates with God. Ephesians 2:4, "But God, who is rich
in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 Even when we
were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace
ye are saved;)"
I
have noticed when the Holy Spirit gives a message to the Church, He
is always telling us of His love for us. My thoughts are, not because
we deserve His love but because He is rich in mercy. Think about how
much mercy is shown in His provision for salvation and in our daily
lives. Hebrews 4:16 tells us "Let us therefore come boldly unto
the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help
in time of need." We all have needs on a regular basis, some
days more than others.
Matthew
5 gives us the Beatitudes spoken by Jesus from the Sermon on the
Mount. The fifth one is "Blessed are the merciful: for they
shall obtain mercy." James 3:17, "The wisdom from above is
first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of
mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. 18
And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make
peace."
We
can do a self exam by checking our attitude, our character and our
contentment. Although, I would say we could get thrown off because of
this fact...Proverbs 21:2, " Every man is right in his own eyes:
but the LORD pondereth the hearts." So we must open ourselves to
the Lord. "SEARCH me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know
my thoughts: And see if there by any wicked way in me, and lead me in
the way everlasting," Psalm 139:23-24.
