Hebrews
4:14, “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the
heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have
not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities;
but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us
therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and
find grace to help in time of need.”
It
is expedient that we have the constant nurture and admonition of the Lord in
our lives. We must have a fresh Word from the throne of God to empower and
direct our struggles today. We need an infusion of His power and might into
our present conquest. We must have the presence of the Holy Spirit to provide
wisdom and courage for today’s decisions.
How
shall we proceed? What are the solutions to the problems we currently face and
the issues we will face in the future? We must look to the Lord Jesus Christ to
receive the direction we so desperately need! The Bible tells us to come boldly
to the throne of grace and make our petitions known to God through our
mediator, Jesus Christ.
How can we come boldly before the throne of God? Because Jesus is our Advocate and is pleading our case to the Father. He is our “great high priest” and continually makes intercession for us by the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:26, “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” Even when we don’t know how to pray, the Spirit prays for us according to the will of God.
