Jeremiah 27:9, “Therefore
hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers,
nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers, which speak unto you, saying, Ye
shall not serve the king of Babylon:”
In this passage, God was
preparing the tribe of Judah for a time of captivity in Babylon. This captivity
was punishment for their disobedience and rebellion, however, it would lead
them to a time of repentance and restoration. The people’s prophets were
telling them that Nebuchadnezzar would not come. But Jeremiah was saying that
was not so and the King of Babylon did come and the people were carried away
captive to Babylon.
We may be oppressed by the
King of Babylon for a period of time, but in the end, we will rise in glorious
victory. What can we do? We can seek God and know that He is directing us in
everything we say and do. We can petition Him to reveal the opportunity for us
to serve His purpose and mission even in the time of oppression and
persecution. He will open the doors of service and ministry as we seek His will
and direction.
The coming oppression and
persecution will purge the arm of the flesh from the Church. It will take the
fires of trials and suffering to separate the gold from the dross. Job 23:10,
“But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I
shall come forth as gold.” Job is a good example of a faithful, obedient child
of God.
When Jesus returns, only those who have made themselves ready will go with Him!
